the first annual higgins 4th of july hoopla took place 10 days ago. it seems like ages ago and though we had a fabulous time i am afraid my retelling of it will not be quite as good as the bacchanal it's been built up to be.as with any good party the picture above is only picture taken of the beginning. i had my camera out and really, really meant to take at least one picture of every guest as they arrived and some of everyone enjoying the music, the food and the lawn games. however, it just didn't happen. when you are the host taking photos is the last thing you feel that you can devote time to. afterall, there are drinks to be refilled, people to introduce and napkins to fetch. in fact, the only photos there are of the whole event are few and far between and 95% of those are of kyle. (i'll let jess explain that one.) you'll just have to take my word for it...it was a F-U-N day.
we had about 30 people in all. family, NJ friends and PA friends all joined together to make it a great day. we played boccie ball, polish horseshoes (i think ryan's cousins dan & joey invented this) and cornhole. cornhole, the most in demand game of the day, is so much fun that i plan on having ryan build us our very own cornhole platform. tia and rob (both super competitive and wearing sox & yankees hats respectively) held their position on the cornhole field for what seemed like hours. in fact, i think they won so many times that participation rates began dropping!!!
my dad manned the grill with great expertise and everyone chowed down on burgers and brats, keilbasa, chips, and pasta salads until there was almost nothing left. after all the eating was done lucy combed every square inch of the lawn for lost tidbits and might've even been successful a few times.
as night drew closer the real fun began. we made kyle, lindsey's man, repeat some stories he'd told us about a coach he once worked with that sounded like a real character. shawn mckinney tried an unsuccessful sail from wil's swing to the roof of our house (see video below). shawn & tia supplied the moonshine (yes, you read correctly, real moonshine from the hills of kentucky: peach, apple pie and regular, aka turpentine) and we passed it around until it was gone. everyone except my mom who had hers in a glass like wine. classy.

lou & kylewe had a wonderful time. there was so much laughter that it made your sides ache. it was the first really great time of our summer and we are so grateful to everyone that came to help us relax, recover and celebrate life.

good times, good times!!!! i'm going to look into cornhole, mostly because i like the name of the game and i LOVE LOVE LOVE the bean bag toss game (sounds similar).
i believe the only thing missing, maybe for another post....is a transcribe of kyle's magazine interview!
AH, YES...THE INTERVIEW! i totally forgot. jess took off with the transcript so i am going to let her post about that one.
dang i wish i'd been there! i can't believe i missed out on moonshine (you must tell me what it tastes like...never had any).
did shawn ever make it onto the roof? looks like a NO...but i'm impressed nonetheless that he got his arse into that little swing.
the flavored moonshines (cannot believe i am saying that phrase) were great - they tasted like pie. the plain, or traditional, moonshine tasted like gas and burned all the way down. yikes.

Oh man, I totally forgot about videoing McKinney trying to swing onto the roof of your house. I'm grateful now he never made it to the roof, since clearly my 4 year old was watching while his mother encouraged a grown man to swing on a child's swing ("higher") and leap onto a roof. Mother of the Year Award, anyone? Yeah, it was a REALLY fun day and, especially, night!
I really hate to disappoint, but I didn't take Kyle's interview home. Either it's still in a notebook at B's or someone conveniently "lost" it. And as for 95% of the pics being of Kyle...I was doing reconnaissance for the crew...interviewing and photographing...real pro work. I don't know if anyone could read what I wrote. I was so drunk I couldn't read my own handwriting. We'll have to search and see if it turns up. That alone might be worth another laugh.

Hummm, no wonder Kyle was in such a hurry to head back to 126 Park from Heather's house. He said he needed to help clean up. Sooo, I blame Kyle for the missing interview! Kyle, cough it up!
great post bets. it was worth the wait. what a great day that was, and yes the moonshine is very good the flavored ones that is, the plain/orginal is very gasoline like. but good old terrye she drank it like a champ.
i was wondering what happened to jessica's blog about the party and the quiz answers that kyle had given. but my guess is the same as lindsey's, kyle what did you do with them??????
the pictures of the night are great, i only wish someone would have video taped betsy and i singing word for word every damn song that came across the sirus radio, we sounded GREAT!!!!
