a few weeks ago i was driving by the pnc and the sign quickly flashed that john was going to be there on the 15th. jess told me a few months ago that he was coming and suggested we go but we'd never discussed it any further. i went home that afternoon, got on stubhub and 3 days later we had tickets. i surprised jess with the news at the party on the 5th and she got so excited that i actually got chills! tickets to an outdoor summer concert was the perfect gift to give for simply no reason at all!
first up...falafel wraps, dolma and hummus from zaitooni, a fantastic lebanese deli in red bank. the food was great and we enjoyed it in the comfort of our AC'd car while watching the younger crowd ramble around the parking lot. i told jess that we could tailgate but that we'd have to shift the stroller, diaper bag and potterybarn kids box around to make room. we decided the front seat was just fine.
colbie caillat was up first and she was amazing. i first learned of colbie from listening to the singer/songwriter channel on sirius. jess had heard her too and lent me her cd. she is an amazing singer/songwriter from california with a beautiful voice, a mellow sound and she put out a damn good album. the songs are beautifully written and her voice rich voice accompanies them perfectly. you might've heard her songs bubbly or realize on the radio. the entire album, coco, is fantastic and worth a listen. she was great in concert (not just a studio voice) and did a fun rendition of the jackson 5's one more chance.
john mayer...what can i say? he started with springsteen's i'm on fire (i gave a mental shout out to rita during this song!) which was a nice way to greet the fans of NJ. the crowd went wild and never stopped. he was absolutely awesome (highlights for me: tom petty's free fallin', gravity & say) and brought the house down for 2 hours. jess and i sang every word and laughed and hugged and danced our way through the show. it was, as jess said, a spiritual experience.

what a great summary to what sounds like a great night! as you know, i LOVE going to concerts and there is nothing better than going to a concert who loves them as much as you do! both of you deserved your night out kid free!
That was a great retelling of our night. John & Colbie were just amazing! Keeping company together all night without kids was also amazing. It was an blast of a night out! Thanks again, friend!
WOW, sounds awesome, wish i could have seen you guys having such a wonderful time. glad you both had the opprotunity to go, you both deserve it.
You looked like you had a fab time.
Downloaded his Live album last week and it has become my new most played tuneage. Some great covers, i agree, "free fallin" is a goodie.
i saw john mayer in concert a couple years back with maroon 5, and he was great. it was at smirnoff (which will always be the sweatplex to me, b) in the heat of the summer, so i think i sweated off 19 lbs that night.
i'm so glad you guys got a night out. it's so nice to have adult girl time.
p.s. cute boys, b and jess!
this is so great. good for you 2 and much deserved! that's a clever and awesome gift!!!
i'm soooooooo with you on seats vs. lawn!!
i've never seen john mayer in concert but am guessing gravity would have been a top pick for me!
do you guys sit next to jennifer?
i love the pics of what looks like you've fallen, then hugging....who captured that?
yes, we fell. we backed up too far trying to get a picture. those three lovely girls - sofia, bianca and nicole - captured it for us.
I'm going to see that same concert in Dallas in a few weeks! I'm so excited!! The last John Mayer concert I went to was GREAT!! Glad you had a good time...hope to see you guys soon. Love ya!
Saw John Mayer outdoors a couple of years ago with the counting crows. both were great...john was FANTASTIC. glad you had fun!
