when i was pregnant it was common knowledge that thinking of the baby growing teeth made me gag. i am not sure why but it did. i was also seriously afraid that i'd give birth to a baby with a full set of choppers. thank god this did not happen.
wil has started the long, painful process of teething. it seems to have actually begun a month ago and now the ordeal is in the full swing. from the looks of it (it's super hard to get a good look inside with his tongue darting every which way) he's getting the top two teeth first. i knew some things about teething but, honestly, shame on all you mothers out there who failed to tell me the most dreadful trait of a teething baby.
facts about teething: painful, sure. exhausting, yes. sleep interrupted, absolutely. mood swings, unfortunately. eating deterred, not really in our case...but happens.no all of those delightful things i knew. what i didn't know was just how GROSS teething is. the constant drool, the wet clothes (his & mine), the hands that never leave his mouth, and, most of all, the SNOT. this morning i popped a snot bubble coming out of wil's nostril that was the size of his nose. while doing so i thought of each and every one of you that has betrayed me. bad, bad, bad. why me? don't you love me?
so we begin...the long, strange road of breaking teeth. on the bright side, at least he wasn't born with them.

Okay...so we didn't want you to know that the first bout of teeth...isn't always the worst. How about that for honesty!
Have you heard of Hyland's Teething tablets? You can get them at Walmart or Walgreens. Gives them alot of relief. All natural. Lindy would actually start smacking and whining when she saw the pill bottle and heard me taking the lid off...they are fabulous and give them near instant relief. They just dissolve on their tongue.
Here's a horror story for you: when Lindy was over a year old...when she had 4, count them 4, trying to break out at once. It got so bad that her gums swelled completely over her top teeth that were fully in! That was so scary! Then, THEN...the pediatrician and her nurse tell me to let her chew on whatever...even putting a wet rag in the freezer and letting it ice up. They said she'll have to cut those gums so she'll get some relief! We made it through without having an er trip or having to let the doctor relieve the gums...but it wasn't fun.
Just curious? Have you had the best experience of croup in the middle of the night, yet? That is the best moment!! When you awaken to your child barking like a seal, gasping for air, and you're running thru the house trying to find all your mother tools as you're trying to wake yourself up.
See if we told you all the horror stories, who would want to be a mother?
haha
LOVE YOUR BLOG BETS! It gets lots of conversation around the ole HS office.
so also...it bears noting that all the drooling and snot are also often accompanied by diahrrea. sorry. dude, if we told everything, nobody'd ever get pregnant again. don't take it as an affront - think of it as our way of ensuring the perpetuation of all human life. we're very noble, you know.
i don't really have anything further to add except....i predict he will not cut teeth for another month or so, and i predict it will be the bottom not the top. i'm with km, love the hylands teething tablets. emily - thanks for being so noble :-)
um....
go red sox?
